Our Research

  • Social Motivation in Children

The goal of this study is to better understand differences in how children anticipate and process social and non-social information. To do this, we measure the natural brain activity of 3-11 year olds using a mesh cap as they watch a series of images containing toys, faces, and scrambled pictures. We are recruiting both typically developing children and those with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Currently recruiting children 3 to 11 years old

  • Specific Interests in Children

The goal of this study is to better understand how the reward system is involved in children’s particular interests (including restricted and repetitive interests in children with autism spectrum disorders; ASD). We measure the natural brain activity of 6-11 year olds using a mesh cap as they watch pictures that either contain their specific interests or the interests of other children. We are recruiting both typically developing children and those with a diagnosis of ASD.

Currently recruiting children 6 to 11 years old

  • Social Skills Group for Teens

The goal of this study is to explore the effects of a well-studied behavioral intervention on brain activity. We will be using the PEERS intervention, and measuring adolescents' brain activity before and after they participate. This intervention involves teens participating in a weekly social skills group, and parents participating in a weekly parent group for 12-16 weeks. We are recruiting teens (ages 11 to 15) with ASD and their families for the social skills group, as well as neurotypical children to participate in the brain activity portion of the study.

Currently recruting children ages 11-15 and their parents
